Pilsen, founded in 1295, is famous as the birthplace of Pilsner beer in 1842, which gave its name to the worldwide popular beer style.
It also has a significant industrial history, being the home of the car company Skoda Works engineering company, founded by Emil Skoda in 1859.
The Pilsen Historical Underground Tour is a unique labyrinth of underground corridors, cellars and wells. They were originally built at the beginning of the 14th century for practical purposes such as storage, transportation of goods and defense. The tour provides a fascinating glimpse into the city’s past, with former underground pubs, wells, dishes, tools or old wooden pipelines there.
Many international companies have factories in Pilsen, including Daikin, Hisense, and Panasonic.

Some of the most famous sights in the city are the Gothic St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral, Renaissance Town Hall, and the Moorish Revival Great Synagogue.
