Stay Connected in Shanghai – On Land and At Sea
When you’re on land in China, including Shanghai and the cruise port area, you pay just €6 per GB with your Red Bull MOBILE eSIM.
Once your cruise ship sails beyond the 12 nautical mile limit, you are no longer connected to Mexico’s terrestrial mobile networks. At that point, you have to switch to a maritime package, data is available for €15 per GB while at sea.
T
he Port of Shanghai is one of the largest and busiest ports in the world. While it is globally known as the world’s leading container port, it also serves international cruise passengers through its modern cruise terminals.
Shanghai is China’s largest city and a fascinating mix of ultra-modern skyscrapers and traditional neighborhoods. Cruise passengers arriving here can expect efficient terminal facilities, organized transport connections, and quick access to the city’s main attractions.
Most international cruise ships dock at one of two terminals:
-
Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal (Baoshan District) – The main cruise terminal, located north of downtown.
-
Shanghai International Cruise Terminal – Closer to the city center and major attractions.
Both terminals offer immigration services, taxis, and transportation options into the city.
Shanghai is located on China’s east coast, where the Yangtze River meets the East China Sea.
-
Wusongkou Terminal: Around 25 km (45–60 minutes) from downtown Shanghai.
-
Shanghai International Cruise Terminal: Approximately 3–5 km from central attractions like The Bund.
Transportation options include:
-
Official cruise shuttle buses
-
Taxis (widely available)
-
Ride-hailing apps (note: some international apps may not work without a VPN)
-
Metro connections (from central terminal)
Because many Western apps and websites are restricted in China, having reliable mobile data is essential. Travelers should check compatibility and consider a China data solution before arrival to ensure access to maps, translation tools, and messaging services.
