• Cannes is a resort town on the French Riviera and is known for its glamour, luxury, and the famous Cannes Film Festival.
• Long before Cannes became the hotspot it is today, it actually used to be a fishing village, where the primary residents were fishermen and monks who inhabited the nearby Île Sainte-Marguerite.
• Boulevard de la Croisette is known for its luxury hotels, designer boutiques, and fine dining restaurants. The boulevard stretches along the Mediterranean Sea and often hosts the rich and famous during major events like the Cannes Film Festival.
• Just off the coast of Cannes you will find Fort Royal on Île Sainte-Marguerite. The Fort is famous for its prisoner, known as “The Man in the Iron Mask,” who was held there for 30 years. The identity of the prisoner was never known.

• Known for the beautiful sandy beaches, it might come as a surprise that many of the city’s beaches are actually man-made. Much of the natural coastline consisted of rocks, so in the 1960s, the government undertook a project to create sandy beaches along the coastline to boost tourism. 
• One of the most famous landmarks in Cannes is the Carlton Hotel, which opened in 1911, and has been a symbol of luxury and grandeur.
