Use WiFi when available to minimize cellular data usage. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > activate the WiFi option. Be mindful when accessing public WiFi networks and use a virtual private network to safeguard your online activities.

Some Apps keep communicating with their servers in the background, even when you aren’t using it at the moment, which uses data. To reduce this type of data usage go to Settings > Apps > select the App you want to change > go to Mobile Data > deactivate the background data option.

Auto-updates are very convenient, if you have an unlimited data plan. If you have a limited data plan or travel outside your carrier’s plan, go to Settings > Auto-Update Apps > select Update Over WiFi.

Some Apps can be accessed offline without an internet connection. Go through your Apps to see if they offer offline access and enable them when necessary.

By monitoring your Apps’ data consumption you will find out which Apps have high data usage. To track your App’s data consumption go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network > App Data Usage. See which Apps are data-intensive (social media platforms and streaming services, etc.), and decide if you want to restrict the data usage or if you haven’t used them in a while, delete them altogether.

Streaming multimedia content uses a high volume of mobile data. To avoid this, download media ahead of time when you are able to connect to WiFi. Not only will it save you lots of data usage, you will also be able to use your media on flights, when there is no internet connection, and it will save your battery life.

Application monitoring, background data restriction, and usage of Wi-Fi networks reduces data usage on Android devices . Follow these tips and you can optimize data consumption, reduce data charges, and prolong your device’s battery life.
