International Soccer Tournament 2026 – Mexico City

Soccer fever is gearing up and the countdown to summer 2026 is already building excitement.

The International Football Tournament returns to North America and this time for the first time it will be with 48 teams competing across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament will be held from June 11 – July 19, jointly hosted by sixteen cities—eleven in the United States, three in Mexico, and two in Canada.

It will be the first international soccer tournament to feature 48 countries instead of 32, making it the biggest in history.

The opening ceremonies are being coordinated across Mexico City, Los Angeles, and Toronto.

The opening match of the whole tournament will be played in Mexico City on June 11, in the most legendary stadium in football history outside Europe and South America.

Banorte Stadium, called Estadio Azteca or simply El Azteca by locals, is the first stadium ever to host three international tournaments. It hosted the 1970 and the 1986 Finals and now the 2026 international tournament.

It has a capacity of 87,523, and is the largest stadium in Latin America and the eighth-largest association football stadium in the world.

The stadium will host five matches. Three group stage matches, one Round of 32 match, and one Round of 16 match.

The best way to get to the stadium is with Metro Line 2 and then the Tren Ligero (Light Rail). Avoid arriving by car, traffic is very heavy in and around Mexico City.

Arrive very early as security is expected to be intense.

Don’t underestimate the altitude. Mexico City sits around 2,240 meters above sea level.

That means walking uphill gets tiring fast, alcohol hits harder, and dehydration comes quickly.

Constitution Plaza will become the main fan festival area. The city also plans 18 free fan festivals across the city.

Get ready to discover iconic landmarks, world-class venues, vibrant neighborhoods, and 39-days of fan celebrations across the region.
