Are there age restrictions on cruise lines?
Age policies on cruise lines are strict and vary greatly from cruise line to cruise line and destination laws. It is best to get acquainted with them all prior to each individual sailing.
The typical minimum age for babies on most cruise lines is 6 months old on the day the ship sails (embarkation day). Exceptions are ocean crossings and remote itineraries with more than two consecutive sea days, where the minimum age is 12 months.
If cruising alone, most cruise lines require you to be 21 years old. Depending where your cruise departs from, that age requirement might be 18. Passengers under the age of 21 must share a cabin with a parent or guardian, except for legally married couples, and qualified military personnel. If you are under the age of 21 and traveling alone check with your cruise line for specific restrictions.
To leave the ship by yourself, passengers must be at least 18 years old, unless otherwise stated. Minors cannot be left alone on the ship without adult supervision.
Usually, passengers must be 18 or older to enter a casino, play table games or slot machines, play bingo, use the fitness center on their own, use spa facilities, enter a dance club after 10 p.m and attend late-night comedy club shows. If cruising in U.S. waters passengers must be 21.
