• Valparaiso, also called Valpo, lies on the south side of the Pacific Ocean, 140 km northwest of the national capital of Santiago.
• It is the third largest urban area in Chile and is home to one of the most important ports in the country.
• The city is built along 44 rolling hills around a half-moon bay, and with the colorful Victorian-style architecture, gives it a unique atmosphere.
• Valparaiso is known for its many funiculars and stairs. One of the funiculars is called Ascensor Artillería, which will take you to one of the best lookout points of the city atop the Cerro Artillería. There you will find a short promenade known for its handicraft stalls.
