Stroll for 10-15 minutes to Piazza De Ferrari. There you will find Genoa’s lively main square with its bronze fountain, flanked by the Doge’s Palace (former rulers‘ residence with grand halls). Continue to Cattedrale di San Lorenzo, a striped Romanesque-Gothic cathedral from 1118.
Strada Nuova is a UNESCO-listed street and is lined with opulent 16th-century palaces like Palazzo Rosso, Bianco, and Doria Tursi, all former homes of Genoa’s elite, now museums with art by Rubens and Van Dyck.
If you prefer excursions, Portofino or Cinque Terre are just 1-hour bus/train away, and definitely worth a visit.
