In 1644 the Turkish took over Rhodes, in 1912 Italy won the Dodecanese from Turkey, in 1943 the German took over, then in 1945 the British. After World War II, Rhodes, together with the other islands of the Dodecanese, was incorporated within Greece.
• The island is dotted with small villages and spa resorts, among them Faliraki, Lindos, Kremasti, Haraki, Pefkos, Archangelos, Afandou, Ixia, Koskinou, Embona (Attavyros), Paradisi, and Trianta (Ialysos).
