• Rome was founded in 753 BC but didn’t become the capital of Italy until 1871. This means Rome is much older than Italy, since the formation of Italy didn’t start until the early 1860’s.

• Rome has the largest and oldest university, La Sapienza University, in Europe. It was founded in 1303 and supports over 120,000 students.
• Rome is also called the city of fountains, around 2,000 fountains can be found throughout the city. Some small and others big, like the Quattro Fiumi and the Trevi Fountain.

• In Rome, and the rest of Italy, milk-based coffees, such as cappuccino should not be ordered after noon. For a coffee in the afternoon or after a meal, order a caffe or doppio, for an extra shot of strong coffee. Milk in a coffee after noon is frowned upon by locals. 
• The authentic pasta dish Carbonara contains no cream! It is made with raw eggs, Pecorino Romano and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. A must try while visiting!
